On July 28, 1973 at the Grand Prix Racecourse, Watkins Glen, NY, The Allman Brothers band, The Band and the Grateful Dead played The Summer Jam. This show is one of the most legendary of all big event shows the GD played because their set was unbelievably great. Although it was a one day event, some people were there or getting there for the better part of the week before. That was part of the adventure…
This is a new page, not in the original book. Dante and I decided to create it in honor of the 42nd Anniversary of this unifying event that for many of the hardcore Deadheads, was their first experience seeing the Grateful Dead. It was the largest gathering of young people the USA had ever seen, 600,000 strong, ready for fun and making a better world!!! -Jerilyn
