Hey Now Sports Fans

On our 1974 Europe Tour, Tom Salter was our promoter at the Alexandra Palace in London. He was also a mogul of Carnaby Street. His house in Chelsea was our headquarters for the first stage of the tour. He also had a house in the country, St. John’s Jerusalem, in Kent — a British manor house with its own chapel and many acres of park land. He invited us for an afternoon of soccer and baseball. We had a giant buffet lunch and then divided up into two teams, each well mixed with Americans and English. We had brought all our own baseball gear in the road cases, mitts, bats, balls, etc. – hoping for just such an occasion.

Phil is happy to be touring Europe again. And looking great in this photo, imo.

Joe Winslow, a truck driver on this tour, looking miserable, missing his beautiful bride Sandi Winslow who stayed in the States. He went on to create Hard Truckers but that’s another story for down the road.

Sam Cutler, a rock legend and one of the band’s managers and promoters of the European tour. Here he is with Rudson Shurtliff, his godson, who is the son of Ramrod and Francis!

And more Pigpen, whose real name is Ron McKernan. This is the classic Pigpen look cowboy hat and all. And as most of you know, he and Janis Joplin were an item for a short time.

Note also that Pigpen died in 1973 after the Europe ’72 tour so strictly speaking this photo should not be here. Yet another reason to do the Remix to set the record straight 😉

Bobby playing baseball. I don’t recall getting the time and place of this as I didn’t make that tour. But I will get it to you.
